The short version
There are four different actions worth keeping separate:
1. Export your data
Use the Habits export control when you want a portable copy of supported logged health data.
Current formats:
- JSON;
- CSV.
2. Delete your Habits account
Use the in-app account-deletion flow when you want to delete the Habits account.
Habits requires re-authentication before the deletion can proceed.
3. Manage or cancel Habits Pro separately
Deleting the Habits account does not automatically cancel an Apple auto-renewable subscription.
4. Deleting the app from your iPhone is different again
Removing the Habits app from your device is not the same as deleting your Habits account.
If you want a copy of your supported logged data before deleting the account, export it first.
Get a portable copy in JSON or CSV
The current Habits product includes a health-data export control.
Available formats are:
- JSON
- CSV
Which format should I choose?
CSV can be convenient for tabular data and spreadsheet-style review.
JSON keeps data in a structured machine-readable format.
The exact fields and structure should be checked against the current export generated by the app.
What this guide does not claim
The current source says Habits exports health data, but this guide does not claim that the export contains:
- every internal account field;
- every server/security log;
- every AI-provider record;
- original Progress Photo image files;
- original Food Photo image files;
- every third-party connected-service record.
Those details require current export-schema QA.
Both formats are copies — neither changes your Habits account
Exporting data does not delete it from Habits.
It creates a copy in the selected supported format.
CSV
Useful when you want data that can often be opened in a spreadsheet or table-oriented tool.
JSON
Useful when you want a structured data file that can preserve nested fields more naturally.
Treat an exported file as sensitive
A Habits export may contain personal health information.
Once you save, copy or share an exported file outside Habits:
- the Habits Face ID / Touch ID app lock does not protect that external copy;
- deleting your Habits account does not automatically delete copies you saved elsewhere;
- Habits cannot retrieve a copy you already shared with another person or service.
Store and share exported files with the level of care you would use for other personal health records.
The export reflects the record in Habits
An export is a copy of supported information stored in Habits.
It does not independently verify that every user-entered or AI-assisted value is medically accurate.
Important
The export is a product feature.
It is not the same thing as every formal privacy-law access right that may apply to you.
If you need a formal privacy request beyond the self-service export, use the process described in the Habits Privacy Policy.
Consider exporting anything you want to keep first
Account deletion is intended to be permanent.
Before you continue:
- export supported logged health data if you want a copy;
- review whether you have an active Habits Pro subscription;
- make sure you understand that subscription management is separate from account deletion.
Exporting is optional. It should not be a requirement for deleting your account.
Do not assume you will be able to restore a deleted account later.
Account deletion requires you to confirm your identity
The current product uses re-authentication before account deletion.
Depending on how you signed in, that currently means:
Email and password
Re-enter your password.
Apple Sign-In
Re-authenticate with Apple.
Google Sign-In
Re-authenticate with Google.
After the account-deletion process completes, active Habits sessions are invalidated.
Why re-authentication is used
Account deletion is a high-impact action.
Re-authentication helps reduce the risk of someone deleting the account simply because they gained temporary access to an unlocked app.
Account deletion is more than signing out
The Habits account-deletion flow is intended to permanently delete the Habits account rather than merely deactivate it.
The current product reference also says active sessions are invalidated.
The final Privacy Policy explains the verified treatment of:
- backups;
- service-provider records;
- security/legal records;
- retention that may be required or permitted by law.
Copies outside the Habits account are different
Deleting your Habits account cannot automatically remove copies of information that are already outside the account, such as:
- a JSON/CSV file you exported and saved elsewhere;
- a report you downloaded;
- a report or file you already shared with another person.
You control those external copies after you save or share them.
Why this wording is careful
A health app should not promise:
“every copy everywhere disappears instantly”
unless the actual production architecture proves it.
Habits should tell you what the current deletion process can genuinely guarantee.
Manage an Apple subscription separately
If you have an auto-renewable Habits Pro subscription through Apple, deleting your Habits account does not automatically cancel Apple billing.
Apple's current guidance says users with auto-renewable subscriptions should be told that billing can continue through Apple and should manage/cancel the subscription separately when deleting an account.
The current Habits product includes a Manage Subscription action for Pro users.
Before deleting the account, review your subscription so you understand its current status.
Cancelling an Apple subscription and deleting the Habits account are separate choices.
Removing Habits from your iPhone is a different action
Deleting the Habits app from your iPhone removes the application from that device.
It should not be confused with the in-app Delete Account control.
Apple also notes that deleting an app does not automatically cancel its in-app subscriptions.
If your goal is to delete the Habits account and associated account data, use the account-deletion flow in Habits rather than assuming app removal does the same thing.
Apple Sign-In users also re-authenticate before deletion
If your Habits account was created using Apple Sign-In, the current Habits deletion flow uses Apple re-authentication to confirm the request.
Google Sign-In users confirm the deletion through Google re-authentication
The current product reference says Habits uses Google re-authentication for account deletion where the Habits account uses Google Sign-In.
Connected services keep their own source data
Habits can optionally read selected Apple Health information and, for Pro, connect to Google Calendar with read-only Calendar access.
Deleting your Habits account is not the same as deleting the original information in:
- Apple Health;
- your Google Calendar.
Those services keep their own records under their own settings and terms.
Habits' deletion process should separately remove or revoke the Habits-side connection, tokens, cached copies and server records according to the verified Privacy Policy.
The self-service export is one useful data-control tool
Habits' JSON/CSV export gives you a portable copy of supported logged health data.
Depending on where you live, privacy law may also give you separate rights to:
- ask what personal information an organisation holds about you;
- request access to that information;
- ask for information to be corrected.
For New Zealand users, those rights are addressed by Privacy Principles 6 and 7.
Use the Habits Privacy Policy for the approved privacy-request process.
Retention is a separate legal question
For New Zealand users, Privacy Principle 9 says an organisation should not keep personal information longer than it is required for the purpose for which it may lawfully be used.
That principle does not mean every copy must disappear instantly when the user taps Delete Account; actual retention and lawful exceptions must be described accurately in the Privacy Policy.
Clearing AI history does not delete the Habits account
The AI Privacy Dashboard includes a control to clear the visible AI access history.
That is separate from:
- exporting health data;
- deleting a health record;
- deleting AI chat history;
- turning AI off;
- deleting the Habits account.
Use each control for the specific action it performs.

Do not assume original photo files are included in JSON or CSV
Habits supports optional Progress Photos.
This guide does not claim that original Progress Photo image files are included in the JSON/CSV health-data export.
If original-file portability becomes part of the export, this guide should be updated after running-build/schema QA.
The account-deletion flow and Privacy Policy should separately explain how stored Progress Photos are handled when the account is deleted.
AI chat history is another separate data type
The current product stores persistent AI conversation history server-side.
This Product Guide does not claim that:
- JSON/CSV export includes every AI conversation;
- clearing AI access history deletes AI chats;
- turning AI off deletes previous AI chats.
The final export schema and Privacy Policy should explain the verified treatment of AI chat history.
Data export and account deletion questions
What formats can Habits export?
The current product supports:
- JSON;
- CSV.
Does exporting my data delete anything?
No.
Export creates a copy. Account deletion is a separate action.
Is the JSON/CSV export a full copy of every file Habits has about me?
This guide does not claim that.
The current product reference confirms a health-data export, but the exact export schema and inclusion of original media files require current QA.
Are original Progress Photos included?
This guide does not claim that original Progress Photo files are included in JSON or CSV.
Can I export before deleting my account?
Yes — the product has separate Export and Account Deletion controls.
If you want a portable copy of supported logged data, exporting before deletion is a sensible step.
You do not have to export in order to request account deletion.
Does deleting my account delete files I already exported or shared?
No.
A copy that you already saved or shared outside Habits is separate from the Habits account.
For example, deleting Habits cannot retrieve a CSV file or report you already sent to someone else.
Does deleting my account cancel Habits Pro?
No.
An Apple auto-renewable subscription must be managed separately.
Does deleting the app from my iPhone delete the account?
No such equivalence should be assumed.
Use the in-app Delete Account control if your goal is account deletion.
Do I have to contact Support to delete my account?
The normal Habits deletion path is in the app.
Apple expects account-creating apps to provide in-app account deletion rather than requiring an ordinary phone/email customer-service flow.
If you cannot access the normal in-app deletion flow, use the current Habits Support or Privacy contact once those destinations are live.
Why does Habits ask me to sign in again before deletion?
The current deletion flow uses re-authentication to reduce the risk of accidental or unauthorised account deletion.
What happens to my active sessions?
The current product reference says active Habits sessions are invalidated after account deletion.
Can a deleted account be recovered?
Treat account deletion as permanent.
This guide does not promise a recovery period or restore process unless the running product explicitly provides one.
Does deleting my account instantly erase every backup and provider record?
This guide does not make that promise.
The final Privacy Policy should describe verified retention, backup and processor-deletion timing.
Is clearing AI access history the same as deleting my account?
No.
Those are separate controls.
Can I ask Habits to correct incorrect personal information?
Depending on applicable privacy law, you may have a correction right.
For New Zealand users, Privacy Principle 7 provides a right to ask for correction of personal information.
Use the current Privacy Policy process once it is live.
Keep a copy when you want one. Delete the account when you want to leave.
Habits gives you separate controls for exporting supported logged health data and deleting your account.
Keep subscription management, app removal and AI-history controls separate so you know exactly which action you are taking.
Small print:
Account deletion does not automatically cancel an Apple auto-renewable subscription or delete copies you previously exported/shared outside Habits. The Habits Privacy Policy explains the verified treatment of retained information, backups and service providers.
